Meet the Builder
Clayton Hughes
Clayton’s journey began as a carpenter’s apprentice framing houses and doing contractor jobs on the side. He cut his teeth for over a decade building homes for other builders before starting New Urban Homes in 2018. Clayton’s professional experience includes working as a site manager, project manager, cabinet shop manager, and residential and commercial contractor. Clayton is a Swiss-army knife in construction and his extensive hands-on building knowledge makes him a trusted expert. He gives back to the community by serving as a youth mentor for a local non-profit. Fun fact: Clayton once owner-operated a farm and CSA providing vegetables and flowers to businesses. Also, he is an avid int’l traveler and loves exploring the globe.
Christian Hughes
Christian has worked on residential houses since he was a kid and has over 10 years of professional experience in construction. His journey in home building began with an urban infill builder in Charleston, SC — first as site manager, then project manager, and eventually director of operations. Christian earned a B.S in Urban Studies and Historic Preservation at the College of Charleston and studied architectural design at Trident Technical College. He is currently expanding his knowledge through a Master’s degree in Real Estate Development at George Mason University’s Arlington campus. Fun fact: Christian once taught English in a public school in Pereira, Colombia in South America.
